From our base in Mangaroa, we offer an unrivaled range of bespoke, recycled timbers, including many native New Zealand species. Our timber collection, now spanning more than 25 years, is recovered from demolition sites across the country with a focus on sustainability and upcycling for the purpose of unique, custom building projects, renovations requiring specific timber and statement furniture pieces.

Headed by former builder with over 30 years experience, Director Grant Scaife began collecting recycled timber as a hobby which developed from a passion for sustainability and breathing new life into preloved wood. Keen to preserve not only the timber, but the story behind it, Grant began supplying salvaged, recycled timber to the market in 2016.

A solid working relationship with demolition companies means Scaife Timber is in an excellent position to source recycled timbers from unique sites across the country.

Today, one of the country’s largest suppliers of recycled timber, Scaife Timber proudly supplies a wide range of New Zealand natives including; Kauri, Rimu, Tawa, Matai, Puriri, Miro and Totara as well as Australian hardwoods among various other exotic timber species.

Meet the team

GRANT SCAIFE

Owner and Director

Grant is an ex-qualified builder with more than 30 years experience. Throughout his career he has developed an extensive knowledge and passion for native timber. Outside of work Grant loves gathering paua and crayfish at Riversdale Beach

TROY MOHR

2nd in command

Grant’s son-in-law Troy started building alongside Grant 10 years ago before joining the Scaife Timber team two years ago.
Troy is a keen fisherman when the time (and wife) allows.

LEIGHTON HUNWICK

Labourer

Leighton has been with Scaife Timber for four years and has a keen eye for finding interesting and unique things on demo jobs.
He enjoys trawling garage sales and op shops and collecting old treasures.

RYAN SCAIFE

Part-time Labourer

A five times NZ national boxing champ, representing NZ at the Commonwealth Games, Grant’s son Ryan juggled an amateur boxing career with time on the tools, having worked for the company for the past four years.

MATT BEACHEN

Labourer + Digital Content Creator

When he’s not drumming with his band Drax Project, Matt can be found on the tools with the Scaife Timber team or curating promotional videos for Instagram.

MITCHELL SCAIFE

Finances and Business Development

Mitchell is a Chartered Accountant and is instrumental in managing the accounts and taking the lead on business development and strategy for Scaife Timber.
He has a dream to open a cafe on site at the Scaife Timber yard.

VICKY SCAIFE

Payroll + Administration

Grant’s wife Vicky has been the backbone of the Scaife Timber office for the past 25 years. Beginning to hand over the reins to daughter Emily, Vicky will continue with her real estate career and continue her journey to becoming a budding golfer. She also has her sights set on completing a half marathon in 2023.

EMILY MOHR

Administration

In another life Emily would be a chicken farmer with her menagerie of animals. But day-to-day you’ll find her running about after her two children in between being an administration wizard in the Scaife Timber office. As Grant’s daughter and Troy’s wife, she’s got the inner workings of the business dialed.
